Miss Bird of Paradise PNG 2025: Western Highlands' Yampela Popena Crowned Winner (2025)

A night of triumph and tradition! The Miss Bird of Paradise PNG pageant recently crowned its new queen, Miss Western Highlands Province, Yampela Popena, in a vibrant celebration of Papua New Guinean culture and the aspirations of its young women. This event was more than just a beauty contest; it was a showcase of talent, heritage, and the future of PNG.

Popena's victory was richly rewarded. She took home a prize package that included K20,000, a trip to Israel, a gold necklace and pendant, a bouquet, and an automatic entry into the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, plus other international events. She'll also be involved in cultural engagements and promotional visits across PNG.

But the competition was fierce! Miss Enga Province earned the First Runner-Up position, receiving K15,000 and a silver jewelry set. Miss East Sepik Province secured the third spot with K10,000. Miss Gulf Province took fourth place with K7,000, and all other contestants received K1,000 and silver pendants.

And this is where it gets interesting... Miss Western Highlands didn't just win the crown; she dominated the Major Awards, excelling in the Pre-Pageant Interview, Miss Traditional, Sarong, and Best Talent categories. Miss Enga also shone, particularly in the One Minute Intro, Traditionally Inspired Dress, Best Designer, and Stage Interview segments.

Furthermore, contestants from Enga, Morobe, and Western Province were recognized with Minor Awards, each receiving K2,000. The Special Awards saw Miss Gulf and Miss Sandaun tying for the Entrepreneurship Award, while Miss Western Highlands added Best Float and K5,000 to her impressive haul.

The pageant concluded on a high note, celebrating the determination of these women and the rich cultural heritage of PNG. The event was described as “a night honouring every PNG woman who steps forward with confidence.”
