In a thrilling conclusion to the Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open, Alexander Bublik has secured his ninth title on the ATP Tour and his fifth since June, marking a significant milestone in his career. The second-seeded player triumphed over Lorenzo Musetti with a score of 7-6(2), 6-3, leaving Musetti still searching for his first win in eight final appearances.
Bublik demonstrated his resilience and skill by effectively countering Musetti's diverse playing style with his powerful baseline game, allowing him to dominate crucial points in the match. Following this victory, Bublik is poised to make his debut in the Top 10 of the PIF ATP Rankings, making history as the first male player from Kazakhstan to achieve such a ranking.
Reflecting on his journey, Bublik expressed, "My main objective for this season was to break into the Top 10, and I’m thrilled to have won a title right at the start of the year, enabling me to achieve that goal." He added, "If someone had told me last April that I would reach this point, I wouldn't have believed it. But now, it's a wonderful feeling, and I hope to maintain this momentum."
Last season saw Bublik shining brightly, where he clinched titles in Halle, Gstaad, Kitzbuhel, and Hangzhou. He carried that successful form into 2026, managing to lose only one set throughout his campaign in Hong Kong.
On the other hand, Musetti, who was vying for his first title since his victory in Naples back in 2022, faced yet another setback in finals, bringing his record to 2-7 at the tour level. Despite the loss, Musetti will still ascend to the Top 5 in the PIF ATP Rankings for the first time, joining the ranks of fellow Italians Jannik Sinner and Adriano Panatta.
The match itself featured a nail-biting first set, where Bublik showcased his talent with a stunning backhand winner during the tie-break at 2/2, propelling him to take control of the set. After winning the first set, he managed to recover even after losing an early break advantage in the second, improving his overall record against Musetti to 3-1 in their head-to-head encounters.
